When you use Before I Forget, we may collect:

Story content: The conversations, voice recordings, documents, photographs, and written text you share through our platform. This may include personal memories, family details, and life experiences.

Technical information: Basic usage data such as when you log in and which features you use. We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics.

How we use your information

We use your information solely to:

  • Provide our story preservation service to you
  • Process your conversations, recordings, and documents using AI to create polished stories
  • Improve the quality of our service
  • Communicate with you about your account

We will never:

  • Sell your personal information to anyone
  • Share your stories or personal data with third parties
  • Use your content to train AI models
  • Display advertising based on your personal information
  • Access your stories without your explicit permission

AI processing

Our service uses artificial intelligence (provided by Anthropic and OpenAI) to help transform your memories into polished stories. When you use our conversation, transcription, or story polishing features:

  • Your content is sent to these AI providers for processing
  • These providers process your data according to their own privacy policies and do not use your content for AI training under our commercial agreements
  • Processed content is returned to us and stored in your account
  • We do not retain copies of your data beyond what is stored in your account

Where your data is stored

All account data, stories, and uploaded files are stored on servers in Sydney, Australia provided by Supabase (our database and storage provider). Your data does not leave Australia for storage purposes.

When your content is processed by AI services (Anthropic and OpenAI), it may be temporarily processed on servers outside Australia. This processing is transient and no permanent copies are retained by these providers.

How we protect your information

We use industry-standard security measures including:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) for all data sent between your device and our servers
  • Encryption at rest for all stored data
  • Row-level security ensuring you can only access your own data
  • Secure authentication with encrypted password storage
  • No shared access — your stories are visible only to you

Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

Access your data: You can view all your stories, recordings, and documents through your account at any time. You can also download your stories at any time.

Correct your data: You can edit your stories, profile information, and other content at any time.

Delete your data: You can delete individual stories from your dashboard. You can also request complete deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us.

Withdraw consent: You can stop using the service at any time. Your data remains until you delete it or request account deletion.

Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete a story, it is removed from your account. If you request account deletion, all your data (stories, recordings, documents, and profile information) will be permanently deleted within 30 days.

Children's privacy

Our service is designed for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 18.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by email or through the service.
